Department Overview
PG&E’s Business Finance team provides critical financial support to its operational Business Partners within the company. This support includes: financial analysis; budgeting, planning and forecasting; monitoring, controlling and accounting; operational performance reporting and analysis; and strategic planning and analysis. These services are critical to achieving the company’s strategic, operational and financial objectives.
The Business Finance department provides a unique environment for energized and talented finance professionals to engage in the business as valued functional advisors, make meaningful contributions to the direction of a dynamic business, and be actively developed and recognized.
Client Organization
The successful candidate will support the Human Resources (HR) organization. HR is responsible for delivering services that are vital to delivering on PG&E’s commitments including: Compensation & Benefits, HR Business Partner, Labor Relations, Recruiting, Workforce Development, HR Solutions Center and Diversity & Inclusion. In addition, HR includes PG&E Academy, PG&E’s in-house learnings organization, which provides technical training and professional development courses to PG&E’s workforce.
Position Overview
The candidate will serve as a business partner focal for all finance and accounting, including planning, budget, forecasting, tools, and optimization analysis. A successful senior analyst will integrate with the client organization and become a trusted financial and strategic thought leader. In sum, the individual will balance and utilize their functional expertise, intellectual curiosity, ethics, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain integrative relationships and ensure best in class decision support and recommendation.
This position provides a unique opportunity to work with Income Statement items that are outside of the traditional Business Finance role supporting PG&E’s operating expenses. Through working with corporate items you’ll gain exposure to complex accounting and regulatory processes, benefits finance and the total company view of earnings management.
Core Responsibilities
- Planning (Long Term): Develop, advise, and integrate the business unit financial plans and performance baselines to meet the Company’s long term operational and financial objectives. Coordinate these long-term forecasts with HR leadership to ensure alignment with department goals & objectives
- Forecasting (Short Term): Provide timely, balanced forward looking financial assessments that capture current performance and enable nimble, value optimized operational and financial decisions. Leverage forecasts to advise on spending decisions for the client organization.
- Reporting & Analysis: Provide timely and accurate monthly financial visibility that objectively assesses performance, and proactive financial analytics that identify opportunities, risks, and associated resolution recommendations. Share findings with HR leadership team to improve performance of financial metrics and drive better informed day-to-day decision making
- Regulatory: Provide regulatory forecasts for HR organization and corporate item expenses for GRC. Assist in drafting testimony as well as responding to data requests. Serve as the financial backbone for regulatory filings, support, and defense.
Other Responsibilities
- Process Optimization: Identify, and evaluate key processes for opportunities in effectiveness, control, and efficiency, and recommend and implement improvements.
- Tools: Provide active engagement on the evaluation, design, and use of our critical functional toolset
- Governance: Implement and maintain functional governance standards and provide feedback on areas of opportunity.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Business, Finance, or equivalent quantitative experience
- Minimum of 7 years of related functional experience (business, mathematics, statistics, engineering – based)
Desired Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal communication and quantitative skills
- Intellectual curiosity, and relentless continuous improvement
- Strong Excel modeling and PowerPoint skills
- Strong understanding of Accounting principles and PG&E cost model/overhead allocation model
- General Rate Case experience
