Position Summary:
You will play an important role in the development and implementation of cellular assays to investigate the mechanism of action of lead drugs and apply Chemotype Evolution to identify novel drug leads for Carmots internal and partnered programs. In this position you will screen custom compound libraries in cellular assays as well as develop new methods to understand MOA. This requires working closely with scientists in biology and chemistry as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
Develop, conduct and analyze mechanistic pathway modulation assays in mammalian cells using western blots, ELISAs, reporter assays, qPCR and other techniques
Generate and analyze primary cellular screening data to meet strict timelines and goals
Troubleshoot and optimize experiments to ensure high-quality data is obtained
Communicate key findings at project meetings and make recommendations for follow-up studies and prioritization

Experience and Skills:
BS or MS in cellular biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field with 3-5 years relevant experience
Experience with mammalian cell culture including transient and stable transfections is essential
Prior experience interrogating the effects of small molecules on cell signaling pathways is highly desired
Expertise using liquid handling instruments and microplate formats
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary environment

Designed to meet the key challenges of systems biology (predicting and ultimately designing biological function), KBase integrates numerous biological datasets and analysis tools into a unified, extensible system that allows researchers to collaboratively generate and test hypotheses about biological functions. Under general instruction, you will work on the core development and production infrastructure of a multi-site scientific platform working on hardware and software installation, configuration and maintenance. The KBase software stack is complex and modern, using containerization and continuous integration and deployment. The position will help continue the automation of on-premise environment to maximize uptime, scalability and agility.

Participate in the operation and continued development of the KBase platform.

We’re a New Orleans inspired casual dining cafe-style restaurant near the Ashby BART Station. We need a person for both front and back-of-house (everybody does both). Our joint is unusual and we have to be proactive with making people feel comfortable and explaining our wacky jazz. We’re mostly cynical curmudgeons, but everyone has to be able to exude sunshine and lollipops despite their potential existential disillusionment.

Clean Driving Record: We have extra hours and extra money for someone who can drive to offsite catering and do setups.

As previously mentioned: everybody does everything. You’re gonna help customers, plate entrees, wash dishes, dice vegetables, mop floors, bake corn bread, dice plates, mop entrees, bake customers, and wash corn bread. Everything. (Except the main cooking, that is.) Pay is $15-17 an hour plus a piece of the tip jar to start.
