POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Actym Therapeutics is a cutting-edge biotech company focused on the discovery and development of novel immuno-oncology therapies, based in Berkeley, CA. The ideal candidate for this position is a highly experienced Cancer Biologist or Immunologist, looking to join a team of scientists focused on building a portfolio of therapies based on our STACT platform. We are a small team, looking to make a huge impact in the field of immunotherapy to treat cancer.  The ideal candidate will have multiple accountabilities, including in vitro and ex vivo cancer immunology experiments, including various molecular and cellular immunoassays to support preclinical drug development efforts at Actym. She/he will identify optimal therapies for clinical development. The candidate should enjoy (and ideally have experience) working in a dynamic, fast-paced and team-oriented startup environment. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess a strong drug-discovery focused, innovator’s mindset with a desire to bring therapeutic benefit to cancer patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These may include, but are not limited to:  

   

  • Significant expertise in cell-based assay development is required
  • Cell culture/ reporter assays and cell lines
  • Transfection/Infection methodologies
  • Viability/proliferation assays
  • Surface staining and multi-color flow cytometry
  • Familiarity with multiplex cytokine assays (CBA, ELISA, Luminex a plus)
  • Isolation, growth, engineering, manipulation and phenotypic characterization of tumor, stromal, and primary human and mouse immune cells (e.g., T cells, NK cells, dendritic or other antigen presenting cells) 
  • Murine organ necropsy, dissociation / processing (GentleMACS) is a plus
  • Significant flow cytometry experience (NovoCyte preferred), preparation of samples, staining with appropriate markers for immune-phenotyping (including tetramer staining); analysis of flow data using appropriate software (FlowJo)
  • Molecular and cellular evaluations of samples from in vitro and ex vivo studies, using ELISA, CBA, qPCR, qRT-PCR, Western blotting, and other techniques.
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry is a plus
  • The candidate must be well organized and able to work on multiple concurrent projects
  • Biotechnology industry experience in a drug discovery environment is a plus

EDUCATION

Ph.D. or M.S. in Cancer Biology, Immunology, or related field + 3-5 years experience
