Job Description:

Scion Staffing ( www.scionstaffing.com ) is leading a search for a Development Director for our client, a well-known educational association based in the East Bay. This role oversees the development, donor, and fundraising programs in providing millions of dollars in scholarships awards and support services to undergraduate students every year. This role reports to the Chief Revenue Officer.

The Development Director will also be overseeing the development and strategic efforts to build a base of individual donors and increase annual giving of the association. This includes telemarketing, direct mail, campaigns, cultivation of donors, and managing and building out a stronger development team.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning, design, and implementation of donor relations and stewardship strategies. Develop initiatives to meet or exceed fundraising and net revenue goals.
  • Annual business plan for Annual Giving program outlining goals, strategies, and tactics to achieve our client’s revenue goals.
  • Oversee all fiscal aspects of our client’s fundraising program, including budget development, forecasting, and analysis and report updates to Chief Revenue Officer.
  • Lead the production and oversight of direct mail, telemarketing, and e-solicitations to acquire, reactivate and retain donors.
  • Collaborate and partner with the Marketing team to develop annual giving marketing materials, including brochures, case statements, and other collateral
  • Manage a portfolio of Annual Fund donors with the goal of building relationships as well as retaining or increasing donor giving.
  • Reports to the Chief Revenue Officer and Senior Team as to the progress towards goals and deadlines. Periodically present updates to the Board of Directors regarding board member giving, and overall Annual Giving progress.
  • Manage a portfolio of alumni scholarship donors and the stewardship strategies associated with this group.
  • Partner with our client’s Alumni Scholarships team on the management of endowment database, donor-student matching process
  • Oversee grants/scholarships donor / events in collaboration with the Scholarships team, such as the Achievement Award Program dinner, The Leadership Recognition Luncheon and the Scholarship dinner.
  • Manage and support hundreds of named endowments as well as any new endowments created.
  • Work with Fund Management on campus regarding balances, payouts, financial reporting, etc. and ensure all stewardship reports, donor communications, and donor outreach activities are recorded in the database.
  • Supervise two program managers and additional administrative staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of direct fundraising experience with knowledge of annual fundraising campaigns.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Solid organizational, administrative, and managerial skills including the ability to create and implement a strategic plan and develop and manage a program budget with net revenue responsibility.
  • Understanding of database management, gift processing, and donor relations.
  • Ability to learn and use our client’s database.
  • Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan, execute and measure the impact of appeals and programs and the development of fundraising marketing collateral and messaging for campaigns.
  • Experience managing and leading administrative staff, managing and evaluating external vendors.
  • Experience delivering a “white glove” level of customer service.
  • Proven ability to work with confidential information and act with discretion and diplomacy in all matters. Professional demeanor and conduct are a must.
  • Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals with collaboration and cooperation
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule to permit occasional evening and weekend commitments.
  • Must submit to and pass Consumer and Motor Vehicle reports and FBI/DOJ fingerprint background investigations. Must possess valid CA driver’s license, clean driving record, and be able to drive.
  • Salary and Benefits: Thesalary range is $80-95k annualized.
