Department Overview
This position is in PG&E’s Gas Operations Wholesale Marketing and Business Development Department (WM&BD). PG&E owns and operates natural gas transmission and storage facilities throughout California. WM&BD develops markets and sells transportation and gas storage services to maximize revenue for PG&E shareholders. Our customers include some of the biggest players in the energy industry, including large end-use customers, gas marketers and producers across North America. WM&BD also manages many special agreements dealing with interconnecting pipelines, joint ownership arrangements and with new customers connecting to the gas transmission system. Position Summary
This position will primarily be responsible for managing the customer relationship and working as the liaison to all internal activity surrounding the process to interconnect large customer load and new gas supply to the PG&E transmission pipeline system. This position will also provide back-up to other activities in the Business Development team such as inter-utility and gas regulatory matters.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage requests for interconnection to PG&E’s gas transmission system, including project intake and development (assessment, estimation, engineering, design, project management, and construction) to ensure facilities are completed by the time the customer needs service (for load projects) or flows gas (for supply projects).
- Prepare necessary contracts to develop the project and to successfully onboard the load or supply after release to operations.
- Project implementation and support.
- Enhance relationships with counterparties.
- Management of special operating agreements such as inter-utility agreements.
- Support efforts to determine and implement process improvements.
- Project cost analysis.
- Forecasting, budgeting, and spend analysis.
- Process documentation.
- May include some regulatory support for state and federal regulatory proceedings with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
- Other stand-alone projects that may arise.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BA/BS in Engineering, Business, Marketing or related or equivalent experience
- 5 years of related experience in the natural gas industry
- Availability for occasional travel.
Desired:
- Master’s degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- 5 years of relevant program or project management experience
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent analytical and writing skills
- Effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- Comfortable dealing with and managing ambiguity
- Technical background working with gas gathering interconnections and transmission pipelines
- In-depth knowledge of databases and SAP
- Knowledge of PG&E’s gas supply project processes, gas tariffs and operating guidelines
